Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our non emergency medical transportation services in Northern Virginia.
What is Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)?
NEMT is professional transportation for people who need help getting to medical appointments, treatments, or checkups, but don’t require an ambulance. We serve seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone who needs safe, reliable transport.
Can I ride in my own wheelchair?
Yes, all of our vehicles are ADA compliant and can accommodate both manual and power wheelchairs. Our team secures your chair properly so you stay comfortable and safe the entire ride.
Are your drivers trained and certified?
Absolutely. All Protego drivers are background checked, CPR certified, and trained in patient safety, disability assistance, and sensitivity care.
What types of rides do you offer?
We provide transportation for medical appointments, dialysis, hospital discharges, long distance medical travel, airport rides, and special trips like grocery runs or social outings.
Do you accept insurance or Medicaid?
Right now, we focus on private pay and partnerships with care facilities. If you’re looking to arrange transport through insurance, contact us to explore your options.
Can a family member ride along with me?
Yes, we encourage it. One family member or caregiver may ride with you at no extra cost. Just let us know when booking.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 24 to 48 hours ahead whenever possible. For recurring appointments like dialysis, we can schedule regular rides in advance.
