Assisted Ambulatory Transportation in Northern Virginia

What Assisted Ambulatory Means with Protego

  •  Door-to-door (or lobby-to-lobby) service: Our driver will come to your residence’s front door, or if you're in an apartment complex or building with a lobby, meet you there. We won’t just wait at the curb.

  • Personal assistance to the vehicle: Once at the door or lobby, we help you (or your loved one) to the vehicle itself — attending to any mobility aid like a walker or cane.

  • Secure and safe boarding: We ensure you are properly seated, belted, and comfortable. Your walker, cane, or small mobility aid will be stowed securely.

  • Accompaniment to check-in: Upon arrival at your destination (doctor’s office, clinic, therapy, etc.), we accompany and help you to the check-in desk — making sure the staff acknowledges your arrival.

  • Return pick-up and same personalized service: When your appointment (or procedure) is complete and you're ready, we come back to pick you up, and we assist you in the reverse order — from the facility to your home, with the same level of care.

With Protego Transport, you or your loved one never have to worry about being left at the curb!

Who Benefits from Assisted Ambulatory?

Our service is ideal for those who:

  • Can walk or move short distances but need help getting safely to the car

  • Use a walker, cane, or other light mobility device

  • May tire easily, or have balance concerns

  • Prefer someone to guide them into the building and through check-in

  • Don’t need stretcher or wheelchair services but do need personal support

  • Want peace of mind that they won’t be left stranded or forgotten

While standard NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transport) covers a wide range of needs (ambulatory, wheelchair, stretcher) we specialize in assisted ambulatory with elevated support beyond simple curb-to-curb service.

Our Promise

Safety first: Our drivers are trained to assist carefully, ensuring your stability, minimizing risk of falls or mishaps.

Reliability: We arrive on schedule and track our service so you’re never left wondering when help will come.

Dignity & respect: You are not just a “ride” — we treat you and your needs with care, professionalism, and courtesy.

Consistency: The same level of personalized service both going to your appointment and returning home.

Personnel Training & Development

At Protego Transport, we recognize that our staff is our greatest asset.  We are committed to recruiting, training, developing, and retaining competent, reliable, and professional personnel who prioritize both safety and compassionate care.

Our driver evaluation and training programs are fully compliant with the requirements of the State of Virginia and the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Every applicant must successfully complete a physical exam, background check, and drug and alcohol screenings, both pre-hire and randomly, throughout their employment.

Once hired, drivers undergo a structured training program led by senior drivers and overseen by management. This instruction typically spans 2 - 4 weeks, depending on the driver’s prior experience and demonstrated ability.

Safety remains the cornerstone of our program. All drivers must pass a behind-the-wheel road test assessing vision, memory, reaction time, physical function, and cognition. Beyond safe vehicle operation, drivers receive hands-on instruction in the use of wheelchairs, hydraulic lifts, and securing devices, as well as the proper loading, securing, and unloading of ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher patients.

Equally important is our emphasis on privacy and compliance. Drivers are thoroughly educated on HIPAA regulations, as well as facility-specific policies and procedures. To maintain the highest standards, they are also required to complete periodic re-certifications and remain subject to ongoing drug and alcohol testing.

Providing ambulatory, wheelchair and stretcher transportation throughout Northern Virginia.
